Local Volunteers

In recent years, TNS grew immensely. 10 years ago, we had around 500 members world-wide, today we have that number of members outside the US alone (in addition to the about 1500 members in the US). So there is some interest in local meetings around the world, in members interacting in their local language.

Australia

G’day, my name is Tony and I live in Sydney Australia.
I’ve been a Triple Nine member for some time now. I was an intelligence officer and a data scientist when I worked, but now I am trying to be retired. I am married and have two children, who could join Triple Nine, if they accepted children. My interests are wide ranging into almost everything, and I would love to say G’day if you have any questions, or you are travelling this way.

Salut !

Every 9th of the month a local TNS gathering takes place in Paris. Contact Vincent for more information.

Hello, my name is Vishrut and I’m from Bangalore. I discovered the Triple Nine Society in 2025 while searching for a community of like-minded individuals who enjoy deep and thoughtful discussions. After learning more about the Society and its membership requirements, I was pleased to find that I met the criteria and joined soon thereafter.

I am currently an undergraduate bioengineering student with a broad range of interests, ranging from learning foreign languages and swimming to tutoring, physical fitness, and meeting new people.

As a Local Volunteer for India, I am happy to share information about the Triple Nine Society, respond to questions from prospective members, and help foster meaningful connections within the community. If you would like to learn more, please feel free to get in touch.

Ciao, mi chiamo Diego Fortunati e vivo vicino a Venezia.

If international members are traveling to Japan, please feel free to contact me.

New Zealand

Hi, I'm Bill. I've been in TNS for several years. I haven't been able to get to the conferences, the ggg999 or egg999, since New Zealand is a bit far away. That's alright, because there are ways to get involved remotely: the Facebook and LinkedIn groups, and through the newsletter, Vidya. The discussions are interesting (and challenging), as well as entertaining.
I'm an economics consultant based in Wellington. A lot of my work is in agriculture and natural resources, such as modelling farmer behaviour and analysing the value of agricultural research. As is common in TNS, I have other interests, too. I do research on psychoanalytic and critical theory, play a few instruments, try to garden, and do a bit of martial arts. Of course, I'm also interested in intelligence, HIQ people, giftedness, and so on.
Originally from the US, I've lived in NZ for years. I do travel around the country a bit, so I'm happy to meet up outside of Wellington, too.

Würde man denken.
At any rate, I'll continue in English, a Swiss tradition. I live near Lucerne, have been active in TNS for longer than I can remember and whatever you need to know about TNS in Switzerland, just contact me.

Hello, my name is Rajesh Raghavan, and I have been living near Phoenix, AZ since October 2023. My parents immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, USA from India in 1970. I spent the first 21 years of my life in Massachusetts, and I graduated from MIT in 1992 where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering along with a Minor in Political Science, focusing on International Relations. I also have a Master of Science degree in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona (May 2008) and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University (August 2013) focusing on Digital Signal Processing. I have a variety of interests in and out of STEM. Within STEM, I am fascinated by Maxwell’s Equations, Quantum Mechanics, Computer Science, and Mathematics, particularly Analysis. Outside of STEM I have interests in philosophy, comparative religion (Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity), law, intelligence (both HUMINT and SIGINT), foreign cultures, and current affairs both within the US and internationally. I regularly read The Economist every week. Since I grew up in Massachusetts, currently live in Arizona, and since my sister and brother-in-law live near New York City, I would love to see more TNS meetups in all three states, as well as hopefully recruiting additional TNS Local Volunteers in Massachusetts and in metro New York City.

Ina Bendis in Santa Clara, California here!

I first learned of TNS in around 2007 at a Mensa Meet-and-Greet in the SF Bay Area, enjoyed hanging out with the TNS-ers there, realized that my academic test scores met TNS standards, and promptly joined. I eventually became increasingly involved in the online discussions and, in 2011 when TNS needed a new Membership Officer, I volunteered to help in that role because I’d come to appreciate TNS as a source of friendships and intellectual stimulation and wanted to share this joy with others.

Since that time, I’ve served nearly continously on TNS’s Board/”ExCom”, first as MO, then Member-at-Large, and now as Director. And over those years my love for and commitment to TNS has only grown. Over the years I’ve attended a few wonderful ggg999 events in the US and, in the pre-COVID days organized and hosted TNS meet-ups in the SF Bay Area, which I hope to resume.

The “professional me” started off as a scientist, then practiced medicine for a couple of decades, then switched to business consulting and then Law (Yes, I do have ADHD!), and lifelong teacher and sometime artist. Most important, I’m proud mom of two kids and seven teen-to-adult grandkids!

USA: Hawaii

I am a legal anthropologist based in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, with academic training in law, cultural anthropology, and comparative literature. I earned my Juris Doctor at Wayne State University School of Law and later completed post-graduate work in anthropology, focusing on how law, culture, and identity shape everyday life across societies.

Over the years, my work has included journalism, public relations, and nonprofit leadership, often centered on cultural history, communication, and education. I have written for a variety of national and international publications and have remained involved in civic, cultural, and educational organizations. What has stayed constant throughout my career is a love of learning and a respect for thoughtful conversation. I am the Vice Chair of Mensa Hawaii.

I have been a member of the Triple Nine Society since 1985, and 2025 marks my 40th anniversary of membership. Triple Nine has long been a meaningful intellectual home for me, offering not only stimulating ideas but also a sense of community and shared curiosity.

As a local volunteer in Honolulu, I am glad to give back by helping strengthen connections among members, supporting local activities, and welcoming both long-time and new members to the Society.

Hello, my name is Michelle Tighe, and I am the Local Volunteer for the Minnesota area. I joined TNS in 1988, but lapsed after a few years, and then rejoined again in the summer of 2025. I enjoy the Discourse and Discord online sites, but I think that the TNS experience is greatly enhanced by getting to know my fellow TNS members in person at ggg999 or local meetings. My vision is to help facilitate local connections in Minnesota.

I am currently retired; my career included working in IT as a mainframe developer/systems analyst and then project management and ended with me applying my project management skills to real estate sales. I have one son, who now has 2 children of his own. I enjoy traveling, cooking, reading, solving puzzles, walking my dog, dabbling with musical instruments (which really annoys the dog), and spending time with friends and family.

I look forward to meeting you. Please reach out to me with any questions or suggestions, or if you are going to be in the area and would like to arrange a meetup!

If you're in or near North Carolina, and you’re interested in local and regional Triple Nine events, definitely send an e-mail to Laura Drake at [email protected]

Laura is one of the true Triple Nine old-timers, having first become a member in 1992. She used to participate in the original Columbus Day TNS national conferences (pre-ggg999) and great informal regional gatherings, as well as hosting numerous local events, back in the 1990s. Since then, she has continued both hosting and participating in local get-togethers on both coasts, forming some great friendships along the way and across the decades. In the current Triple Nine era (2010 ff), she has hosted one ggg999 and was part of the group that put together another one. She has also spoken at a number of ggg999s on a wide range of different subjects.

The state of North Carolina and the immediate region surrounding it are right at the edge of critical mass, in terms of numbers of interested members, to be able to have some great local and regional events, but a few more are needed. If you are a new or prospective member seeing this, or a long-time member, and you think you might enjoy some warm, friendly, informal, geeky get-togethers with fellow Triple Niners in or near this state, definitely get in touch.
